Buying & changing allllll the stuff!

It’s funny, before going down the infertility road I was already starting to go on a mission of changing my diet, and looking into what beauty products I use. This was due to a number of reasons, including my lovely mum being diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer, and also going for a colonoscopy myself and a pre-cancerous polyp being found - yikes! This was removed thankfully, but it really set me down a road of thinking ‘what the hell is in our food and the products we use?!’

Enter fertility, or lack of, into the mix. Woooow, the rabbit holes you can go down! I found myself googling everything that might help when trying to conceive. Here’s just a few things that I have tried over the last few years - most of which I have managed to stick to…

  • Cutting out processed meat

  • Cutting down on meat in general, and only having it once or twice per week

  • Going vegan/dairy free

  • Changing to organic, chemical free tampons and period pants

  • Changing my makeup, deodarant and beauty products to natural, chemical free products

  • Cutting down my sugar intake (I am an absolute sugar fiend, so this one was hard!)

  • Buying a LOT of supplements! - Folic Acid, Vitamin D, Omega 3, CoQ-10, Vitamin E

  • Going to acupuncture (mainly for my hay fever which has been amazing, but fertility as well)

  • Trying some basic meditation

  • Affirmations

  • Personal training sessions

  • ‘Sperm friendly’ lube

  • Ovulation tests

  • Eating almonds/walnuts

  • Drinking berry smoothies

  • Cutting down on plastic use (so things like food containers, water bottles etc)

So quite the list! Obviously nothing has really helped when trying to conceive naturally so far, but I’ve continued doing a lot anyway for health reasons. After reading a book called ‘It Starts with the Egg’ by Rebecca Fett, she suggests a lot of similar stuff, so it sounds like it’s worth a try!
